Download the latest Member Favorite's Restaurant List.
One of the Yahoo Group’s features is the GF Restaurants Database, which contains information on local restaurants that are friendly to celiacs. It includes all of the places listed in the DCMCO Members’ Favorites Booklet, as well as new information shared on the list serv in between printings of the booklet. It also includes local locations for all of the chain restaurants noted in the booklet. The database is updated at least quarterly with new information from the list serv and/or other sources. (Please help us populate the database by sending in new recommendations!)
You should be able to get right to the database by entering these links into your browser:
* http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/DCCeliac/database
* http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/DCCeliac/database?method=reportRows&tbl=1
Alternatively, you can access the database by going into your Yahoo account; then going onto your account’s Groups page (go to "Account information" and click on the link to "Groups" on the right hand side); and getting into the DC Celiac Group. At the DC Celiac Group’s home page there should be a list of options on the left-hand side -- about 2/3 of the way down is the "Database" button. Click on "Database" and you'll see GF Restaurants.
Clicking on GF Restaurants will take you into the database page, with a "Search this table" option at the top of the page. You can search for terms that appear in any of the fields:
* restaurant name
* address
* city, state and zip
* phone
* webpage
* any recommended meals or GF menu availability
* member-recommended restaurant
* type of food (see box below)
So, if you were interested in places JUST in a certain zip code or city, you’d enter that information into the search box and your results should pop right up. Likewise, if you only wanted places with a GF menu, or places serving Mexican food, put those terms into the search box and you will get a list back! Restaurants where members have eaten and had good experiences have an X in the “member recommended” field – otherwise the restaurant has been suggested to be good, or to have a GF menu, but the experience has not been confirmed by anyone (or has not been reported back to the group).
Useful search terms: GF menu, GF spree, GF options
Types of cuisine: American, Asian, Australian, Bakery, Belgian, Brazilian, Burgers,
Burmese, Caribbean, Cheese, Chicken, Cheese, Chili, Chinese, European, Fast Food,
French, German, Greek, Indian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Latin American, Malaysian,
Mediterranean, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Pakistani, Peruvian, Pizza, Pretzels, Tex-Mex,
Thai, Seafood, Spanish, Tapas, Tex-Mex, Vietnamese
See the website (www.dcceliacs.com) for the form to use to submit a restaurant for the database and members’ favorites booklet.
Please feel free to send any corrections, additions, and/or deletions to the database to Susan Flinn at susan@oxygencommunications.com
Thanks for the update, Anne. I didn't remove Alero, because members have eaten there successfully in the past, but I did add a caution.

Just a friendly suggestion. I called Alero Restaurant, which is at the top of the "Member Favorite Restaurant List," and the manager didn't know the word "gluten." Alero should probably be removed from your list.

We visited D.C. and used your restaurant listings. All of the places we went were wonderful except Cosi. I felt there was a large risk of cross-contamination there, but maybe it was just the one we went to. We loved Lilit Cafe and Rustico! I brought back Lilit Cafe menus and took them to my support group today and they were all gone by the end of the meeting. We do invite you to Erie for the CSA convention the end of this month.

I'm a fellow CSA member celiac from Erie,Pa. The national convention is here this year. My daughter lives in Woodley Pk. and we are going there to visit. Thanks for the list of restaurants! It will make our stay so much easier. Hope to see some of you at the CSA Convention!
